Canada has won an important decision in its ongoing battle with the United States over softwood lumber tariffs.

In August, the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) Extraordinary Challenge Committee (ECC) ruled that Canada did not illegally dump lumber in the United States. Although it's a step toward eliminating the penalties of up to 27% for manufacturers who import lumber from Canada, it's far from the last word in this years-long dispute that has seen countless turns and reversals. While many lumber companies and the Canadian government have claimed this as a major victory, early indications are that the United States will not give up the fight.
