The ability to quickly dispatch teams of well-trained technicians helped  J.C. Restoration build on its base of residential restoration to take on the big commercial jobs that have powered its growth through the last decade. In 2010 the company did 25 jobs of $100,000 or more. Training, says general manager Steve Rost, plays a key role in sustaining both efficiency and morale. At monthly companywide meetings, Rost says, “we feature the great jobs done [the prior month] by each of our divisions. If we hit one of our top [sales] months, everyone gets a $100 bill.”

To handle those big disaster jobs, J.C. Restoration sends a bus full of technicians. The company operates an on-site training facility that not only allows workers to add to their skills, but offers instruction on disaster remediation to building owners, property management associations, fire chiefs, and insurance adjustors in its 100-person auditorium.
