"When a customer has a loss, we are able to take the job from beginning to end,” Chuck Mertz (front) says. Whether fire, flood, or storm caused the damage, the company has house restoration down to a science. Enviro-Care has a fleet of vans to move furniture out of the house, experts to repair the furniture, 70 storage vaults in a 14,000-square-foot facility to hold the furniture, and contractors to restore the house.
Not many companies offer this type of one-stop service, Mertz says. Residential jobs account for 75 percent of his work; the rest are commercial.
The work Enviro-Care does also requires careful scheduling because calls from insurance agents are unpredictable. To ensure timely and accurate work, estimators have laptops that are connected to the office computers, so updated information is available to all employees.
Besides handling the job, Mertz says, employees must be sensitive to the emotional needs of the client. “People are in a vulnerable position,” he says. “Our integrity has to be high.”
